A new Zaman HSF for your extreme rig...here's a quote from slashdot:
"I couldn't express the size of this heatsink in the space provided for the subject of this post. It's the size of a small country and when the fan is running, turbulence from it means a no-fly zone needs to enforced above it."
You just gotta love Zalman. I thought my 1kg (2lb) 7700Cu was big. Here's a picture (ready yourself, I roll over laughing everytime I look at it!): Saphalline would love this! (http://www.geocities.com.nyud.net:8090/oculus42/zalman.html)

It's still there. You shouldn't have gotten 404'd. Just in case, I'll add the pic to this post later (I saved it).

Holy cow Batman!! That's huge! You would need to add titanium struts to your mobo to hold that thing up, and reinforcements to the back of the mobo to keep it from ripping off the front.

They have got to be kidding, right? I mean, it's a Zalman label, it looks like a Zalman creation but ...

In the detail of the fan on the Geocities pic, it says "Zalman Quiet CPU Cooler", next line says 2 ball bearings.
Heck, that thing would not even need a case fan with all the air it moves! Of course the case may have to be as big as a filing cabinet...

QUIET???? That thing would probably match my guitar amp...you could fly 3 kites in the airflow...
OK seriously, that can't be legit, it has to be a joke. According to my ruler (Linux has one of those) the cooler and fan total approximately 5.6 times the height of the cigarette pack, which is about 3 1/2". I don't have one that size to compare it with, so I have to estimate. That totals about 19 1/2". I do have several cases to compare, they average about 7 - 7 1/2" in width (ballpark figure, my physical ruler is only 6" and I'm not going out in the rain to get my 18" machinist scale)... The heatsink fins would be a foot in diameter, maybe a bit more, and the round disc right at the top of the cigarette pack would be about 8" in diameter.
To actually use that cooler, if it is really the size shown in comparison to the cigarette pack, you would have to cut a rather large hole in the side of the case, put it at least a foot from your desk and it could double as a window fan if you set the computer on a stool. That's assuming you have someone around to help pick it up... :D
It has to be a spoof, I seriously doubt if anyone would really expect that monstrosity to actually be mounted on a motherboard...
I wonder if that's a picture of a demo booth display that was made extra large so people could see details that would not be apparent when looking at the actual cooler that does fit in case. The background looks like what I would expect to see in a display booth at a show. That thing would barely fit in the trunk of a '72 Cadillac...

I have to believe it's a spoof, or something. Slashdot is notorious for stuff like that. I'll check the Zalman page. Even if it is a spoof, you have to admit it's impressive--and funny. I'm a geek, but I like to laugh. Even if it is at geeky things. :D
