This is not really a tech question, but has anyone taken a hard disk on board as part of your carry-on luggage since 9-11? Any hasselment? Is it too unusual to be acceptable for the security check people? I'm about to relocate to work out of another country and was thinking to simply take my hard disk with me rather than make tons of CD roms amounting to 45 gig data.
I haven't had problem with a laptop, but am unsure about a bare harddik. Please share your experience and advice.
Thanks very much in advance!

I guess you could check with your chosen airline, they should be able t tell what is and is not acceptable for carry-on baggage.

A simpler suggstion may be to ship it to your destination. You can then use an Insured carrier and avoid any security hassles.

almazkhan,
Also, you might want to consider calling the AIRPORT you would be departing from and asking for a SECURITY official to explain your concern.
I would suggest touching base with them as they are the ones who will most likely have to initially deal with your issue.
Or, I think all major airports have local Police officed on site. They might be another resource.

May all your dealings in life be win/win!

If you try to take a bare hard drive onto an air liner going to the US
Forget it.
Even a laptop has to be booted up to get it past security.
Ship it ahead of you. Or use the cd-rom backups.
