Hi oh magnificent ones. we just recently came into a JVC GR-D200U camcorder. The manual (typical) does not state that you need a IEEE 1394 (firewire) to be able to pull video off the tape to the pc. I believe it is a digital camcorder not analog. Anywhoooo, the thing only came with a S-video cable and usb 1.0 cable (which I can use to capture still images) My question is which firewire should I buy that is around 50 bucks and if I should go to Newegg or office depot.... I went looking on the net and was overwhelmed by how many there are. I do not need one with 64 ports or anything that crazy, just something that will suffice in getting the vid to pc.

Any help will be much appreciated!!
Gracioius :p

The best way is to use firewire.

You'll pay more in a store than you will on newegg.

When I first got started with my digital camcorder, I ordered this one (http://www.newegg.com/Product/Product.asp?Item=N82E16815124015). Comes with a firewire cable and some video editing software. Granted, the software is old and outdated, but it's something to play around with.

Also, check out WinDV (http://windv.mourek.cz/), a nice little freeware utility to read and write AVI to and from your camcorder.

you'll need a 4pin to 6pin firewire cable. This will let you transfer the video data... like copying it over to your computer from the dv tape. you couldn't use the s-video anyways (not without a compatible video card) but if you did, it would basically decode the video data, broadcast it over the s-video cable, then your computer would re-encode it back to data files. this would mean lots of quality loss. sooo, go for the 4-6 pin cable. you can get one off ebay for 10 bucks shipped. use any capture software to grab those frames... good luck..
