I have an HP notebook (w/WinXP Home) without a Microsoft Office package which I need for work/school/travelling. I have a Gateway at home with XP Home and MS Office Professional--to inexpensively have MS Office Pro on the notebook, should I just upgrade to XP Pro on the notebook and remote access my home PC from the notebook; buy MS Office Pro for the notebook; or is there another less expensive solution? Thanks for the help. LillyDayStar

MS Office for Students and Teachers 2003 gives you licenses for 3 PCs and retails for about $150.
It includes:
Word, Excel, Outlook, Powerpoint

or

Office 2003 Academic:

thanks to PopPop for this link.
$123 + $1 shipping

Check the book store or on-line store at your college for prices. They are sometimes very very low....

I did check with my school bookstore and the student/teacher edition was $149.99. I think I will go with the newegg site for the $123 something with $1 shipping.

Thanks to all. Great site, glad I found it! LillyDayStar

By All means check the school store.
I picked up the same software for the kids at 1/2 that amount

I have seen it sold cheaper at the local Costco, but cannot guarantee availability, cheap price vs expensive gasoline/risk.

When I was attending the University of Phoenix, not too long ago actually, the online bookstore did have the student package for around $60. You had to ask and you had to show enrollment and active attendance proof. I already had the 2003 Office Suite Professional that I got from work through a corporate arrangement with MS. Believe it or not, that was $20. It's a sort of temporary license that's only valid for as long as I work for my company or until either MS or Lockheed terminate the agreement.

PrntRhd--just curious...did I do something wrong with that post/link to Newegg? If I did, let me know so I don't do it again.

Nope,
It was fine by me, a good price for the same software I had referred to, and I was giving credit to you for the effort in the search in the other thread with a similar topic.

My school bookstore is run by Barnes & IgNoble, the $149.99 price is as good as they can do. Will put in a call to Costco to see what they have. Do you think I could try another school's bookstore where I am not a student? I like that $60 price.....Thanks people for all the great input and ideas! LDS

I doubt another school would do that. I believe schools like UoP, where I attended, have a limited contractual arrangement whereby MS allows them to sell well below retail. Since your school is using Barnes and Noble, and B&N is a "retail business" it looks like they are limited to the standard "student" rate that you can get most anywhere including other places like CompUSA, OfficeMax, or maybe even Amazon. Newegg's price is lower likely because they reduce their margin as much as they can and/or are allowed and they have less overhead to cover.

Looks like Newegg might be your best bet.

Great price. Nearly what Newegg sells it for. Probably the only way to get it cheaper is illegally.

PrntRhd, thanks for the update. I drove right by Costco today and remembered that I wanted to check the software pricing, but was late for an appointment. I am glad I checked back in -- will run by first thing tomorrow! Thanks, LDS
