I have a socket 7 computer running at 233 MHZ at 66 Bus..the max bus speed is 75..was thinking about getting a AMD K6-2 450 ...wouldnt that 450 be able to underclock to 266 at my 75 bus setting.. so i can get 3D support along with a video card upgrade and 128 Pc 133..? Have never went backwards before. http://www.PCGuide.com/ubb/biggrin.gif but will gain 33 MHZ and 3D support for peanuts.. if it will work? Thanks.

What mother board do you have? Does it conform to this link's (http://www.romulus2.com/articles/guides/newlife/newlife.htm) specs. Can it do the core and I/O voltage? If so set your multiplier for 2X's (remapped at 6X's) and you could be running at 400Mhz at a front side bus of 66Mhz. You can also try front side bus at 75Mhz and a possibly 450Mhz.

Well i got what info i could see on the board i dont have a manual..
its a Micostar 5156 and the bios is Award dated late 97 i updated this a while back
as far as i know it was the last.it also has 512 L2 built in...with
5 PCI and 3 ISA slots, 4 Edo slots and 2 sdram..is also Intel chipset.
heres what the silkscreen had:
(BUSSPEED)
55
60
66
75
(V-CORE)
3.5
3.3
3.2
2.9
2.8
(BUS/CORE RATIO)
X 1.5
X 2
X 2.5
X 3
X3.5
This is all controled by one dipswitch.

Hi Randy
The Mboard you have is basically an Intel CPU
compatable board.
Problem with running an AMD CPU lies mainly with
the V/Core settings. The lowest Core Voltage you
have available is 2.8 which is going to be excessive.
Need settings that offer down in the 2.2 range. I
had a K6-2 that I ran at 2.8 but couldn't keep it cool.
Also, it would be beneficial to have Bus/Core Ratio
multiplier options that range up to X5 and X5.5. And
Bus Speed options up to 100+.
What a person would be looking at is a Super Socket 7
Mboard rather the just the standard Socket 7 board.
Luck.
