hi all

okay i've had my network setup work before with all the same hardware but this time no luck. Here it is :

> 1 X Belkin54g rotuer and a BlueYonder (isp) Cable modem
> 1 X PC - (Athlon XP, 512 mb ram...)
with a 10/100 ethernet connection to the router
> 1 X Dell Inspiron - (Pentium 4)
with a PCMCIA Orinoco 802.11b wireless connection to the network
> 1 X Dell Inspiron (Centrino -> integrated wi-fi)
with a built in Intel 802.11g wireless chip

Windows XP SP2 on all machines

using the manager i've enabled the DHCP server and set up a small pool pf IP addresses starting at that of my PC. I've manually assigned the IP addresses of the wireless connections of the laptops to be within this pool.

Finally (omitting all the port opening business) i've secured he network with a 64bit wep key which i entered when the laptops detected the network and with this successfully connected to the network (or so i thought).

HOWEVER despite a successful connection i cannot access the internet from the laptops i.e. firefox/IE can't open its start page, failed msn, limewire connections etc.

Setting both wireless connections to obtain automatically results in a 'limited or no connectivity' to my network so i am at a loss.

Any light shed would be much appreciated

Limewire is a system killer. It allows for the installation of and system desctruction by all kinds of spyware/adware and crapware.

I would:

1) Uninstall Limewire
2) Download install and update Adaware (http://www.download.com/Ad-Aware-SE-Personal-Edition/3000-8022_4-10045910.html?part=dl-ad-aware&subj=dl&tag=top5). Perfroma full system scan.
3) Re-boot
4) Download install and update Spybot Search & destroy (http://www.safer-networking.org/en/download/index.html). Scan for problems and fix all in RED.
5) Re-boot
6) Download Hijack This (http://www.subratam.org/main/index.php?option=com_content&task=view&id=19&Itemid=41). Install it into a permanent folder. Run the program and choose the option to scan and create a log. Post the contents of the log here for review.

hi ben

thanks for the suggestion.

checked limewire out (forums etc) before i installed it and ran stronger antispyware such as spysweeper and spysubtract ( as well as spybot and ad-aware ) to which i found/read that the removal of a particular dll file was necessary to maintain system integrity?
out of all the p2p programs it seemed the 'cleanest' (hard to find torrents these days).

anyway i'll take your word for it and produce the logs shortly but would you like to see the logs from the laptop or the PC or both?

best
