Hello,

This is my first post on this forum. How y'all doin? Anyway, enough small-talk.

I'm trying to add a desktop to my wireless network. I'm using a Linksys BEFW11S4 802.11b wireless router and I already have 4 PCs/Laptops successfully running on the network. All of the systems are running either XP Home or XP Professional (all are SP2) with various adaptor cards.

The desktop I'm having trouble with is running XP Professional SP2 with a Belkin F5D7000 adaptor.
Here's the problem: I have the network WPA encrypted, but WPA data encryption is not an option on this particular computer in the wireless properties.
I can select "Open" or "Shared" in the Network Authentication window, and "Disabled" or "WEP" in the Data Encryption window, thats it.
What am I missing? I've installed the most recent Belkin driver, I'm using Windows to configure my network, Wireless Zero Configuration is started, I have all of the recent Windows updates, but still can't figure out why I don't have WPA capabilities.
Any suggestions?

Thanks,
TVH

Hello tvh and welcome to http://www.pcguide.com/ubb/pcgubb.gif

I think you have answered your own question here. It appears your Belkin (http://catalog.belkin.com/IWCatProductPage.process?Merchant_Id=&Section_Id=201522&pcount=&Product_Id=136479) wireless adapter does not have WAP capabilities, only WEP.

You might want to take a look at THIS (http://www.webopedia.com/TERM/W/WAP.html). I have never really looked at WAP before but this shows me it is not designed to function the same as WEP for securing a home wireless network. This looks to me to be designed for handheld type computers (PDA's, cell phones,...) You might consider seting up WEP on all your machines. ;)

Good luck
