Can you please tell us how this passworded notebook came into your possession?

Just a general point is that most modern laptops have made it very much more difficult to bypass any BIOS password (unless a backdoor password was also provided) without physically replacing the ROM chip; also any messing with the CMOS battery is unlikely to help and will probably make system recovery even worse.

If the Hard Drive has been additionally protected with an ATA password in a security area on the drive then AFAIK these are uncrackable and so that would mean a new HDD.

These measures were obvioulsly introduced for laptops which are generally much more prone to loss or theft than their desktop counterparts and since many laptops are also provided by companies to their employees.

You could try reflashing the BIOS, but there is a fair chance that it will prompt you for the password to do so or retain the password even after the flash...

Why do you need to get into the BIOS? Or do you mean that there is a startup password before it will go past the BIOS screen and load windows?

If you can boot the machine with a DOS disk you can fdisk it and then reload it with your own OS...
