View Full Version : won't read a specific cd-rw
I have a laptop that has a dvd r/rw. I put in a cd-rw that contained a program I was going to install. My computer saw it as a blank disc. When I put the disk in a friends laptop, it recognized the disc and files on it. When I put another cd in my computer it recognized it ust fine. Why will it not recognize this particular cd-rw and a disc with files on it?
thanks

Which application was used to format/write to the CD-RW disk?
Winxp's own? Packet Writing software?
Which OS is running on that laptop?
Do you have reading software that matches the writing software?
Is that usually a problem? I have the same software on my computer as on the computer that actually read the data on the disc. In other advice?
thanks

What brand of CDRW media? If you copied a program onto a brand that has a less than stellar reputation, there could be issues. Memorex is a good name company that makes absolutely lousy recordable CDs. I refuse to buy them anymore. I have a half dozen 25 packs that I got on sale a while back from CompUSA. I see why they are on sale. The failure rate--from failure to even be recognized to data errors-- is on the order of 30 percent. I couldn't believe it so I checked numerous forums and other sites. Yep, lots o' people having the same experience. Put the disc in and get the "Insert Disc" message anyway. Or try recording and it bombs on the lead-in Lead-out, or the data verify says, you've got a lotto bad bits here.
One word "MEDIA".
