View Full Version : where's my connection?
my husband bought me a toshiba techra S1 [2nd hand] not too long ago. my problem is, i haven't hooked it up to the internet yet, because i think my connection is unplugged. i have a a normal phone jack and then an ether jack on the back. but does this mean that i can only use my laptop when it's connected to my modem? it can't be wireless? i've tried looking for my modem. even looked for drivers. but toshiba.com really isn't much help. it talks about notebooks, but only about buying them.
any advice? i am very eager to install the internet [sbc dsl].
thanks.

Welcome to the pcguide forums Ari!
You are mistaken about Toshiba's website. I have a Tecra 8200 and found everything but the kitchen sink on their website for mine! Here (http://www.csd.toshiba.com/cgi-bin/tais/su/su_sc_home.jsp) is the front page of where you need to go to get manuals, drivers and lot's of other goodies for your pc.
You will be able to choose your connection quite easily. I haver mine set to LAN at the time but with a quick run through inetwiz in the run box, I can change it to dial-up or wireless and back as I see fit.
On mine there is a very small switch on the front left of the bottom section to turn the wireless on and off. When it is on, there is a small led next to it that becomes lit.
Mine came with just Windows 98SE on it and also a cd with a few driver programs. I needed some more from their site but the best one was a cd I purchased through eBay that had a few things I was unaware of. So you may look there too.
If you have trouble finding what you need or how to install it, give us a holler. We'll be here sittin' on the back porch so you may need to knock hard or just c'mon in! :p
