I am trying to hook up my PC so that I can watch movies from my TV in my living room. I have already established picture via S-Video and setting my monitor settings to "clone". However, I have hit a problem on sound. My PC has an integrated 5.1 soundcard, and I want to be able to hear 5.1 through the surround system I have in my living room. My receiver has inputs for both optical and coaxial audio cords. How can I get the sound to my receiver????

what kind of sound card is it? look up a manual and look for it to mention digital output.... it might say S/PDIF ("coax") or toslink (fiber optic) or something along those lines. theres a good chance it wont have either, because your computer is acting as the decoder, and its sending out the analog signal for speakers... you could get one for 50 bucks or so im sure, but make sure its got the coax out, cuz that's a lot cheaper to run then a 50-foot fiber optic would be...

My sound card has a SPDIF digital out as well as places to plug in seperate channels (e.g. left/right, center/subwoofer). My amp is 25 ft. away and supports optical, audio coax, and analog inputs as a last resort. I have an S-Video cable going to my TV which is also 25. feet away. This means I can't use any "wireless" audio because it might not match up to the picture.
-Thank you for responding :)

just pipe the s/pdif to your amp. configure the amp dvd video input's audio to COAX, and you may have to set something on the computer to enable the s/pdif. did you get it to work yet?
