Hello, Everyone,, I have an HP pc with windows xp home edition, and everytime i start my pc i wait for everything to load, now loading in the taskbar is HP help Center and HP support icons, now i don't want them to load at startup, so i went to Msconf and then to starup programs tab and unchecked the boxs for these two items but when i restart my pc, they are there again and with a check mark in the boxs! How do i stop HP from putting these back? There must be a registry tweak for this, can anyone tell me how? Tom

If it doesn't work in msconfig (although it should), check your startup folder to see if its referenced there. If its not there, perhaps you can open up the HP Help Center program and look under a menu item like "options" and look for anything that looks like you can stop it from popping up at startup (usually a check box item). If all else fails, uninstall all the HP programs except for the drivers you need to run your printer (?).

If you build it, they will come.

There should be an item in the Add/Remove to uninstall the HP help center...if not trace it down and look in the folder where it actually is, there should be an uninstall there. Make sure that you are actually disabling them as the admin, they probably load twice (or more) once for the admin and then once for each user....

mjc: I went to the start up folder and HP is connected to a Backweb program and i cannot open the backweb file (it wont open) I know one or two times this so called Backweb screen came up and said i had to agree to use it or i would may not be able to use plug in feature! and the screen would not go away unless i agreed, so i did. I dont understand this HP with Backweb connection business? Did you ever hear of it? I saw an explaination of it on another forum but forgot to print out a copy.

Backweb is a piece of bandwidth stealing bug ridden filth that HP uses to provide driver updates for those to lazy to get their mouse of its fat a** and click a couple of links to get to HP's website. (ok rant is done http://www.PCGuide.com/ubb/wink.gif) I believe that if you go in the registry (or grab one of the startup management programs....do a google search for startup managers there are a ton of them with Startup Control Panel by Mike Lin being one of my favorites...), under one of the run keys you will find backweb, disable it there by removing it (backup your registry first). Once it is stopped you should then be able to open it or uninstall it....

mjc: I guess we can rule out Backweb being on your Christmas list? Tomorrow i will try what you said with google etc. No More HP for me, they even have an agreement with microsoft to take over there support, but i think its only with the OEM package deals.
