The system shows that is has found the CD drive and zip but I do not get an icon on windows has I had in the past. Once thing happen that changed things, I got a message that said something about the system is not a 32 bit system. Not sure what this means. How can I get my system to recognizes the IDE controller?
Thank you

Hi,
It sounds like you have a problem with the harddisk/IDE drivers causing the system to use compatibility mode (16bit?) drivers.
i)It would be helpful to have more details about your system (motherboard, chipset etc.) and the configuration.
ii)Have you done anything recently that might have caused this to happen i.e. have you installed new hardware, software or changed your configuration?
Ben
First, remove the Bus Master IDE Controller from Device Manager.
Then, remove the primary and secondary controllers, and restart.
Windows should recognize all controllers and reinstall their drivers.
If this does not work, than use REGEDIT to remove the "NOIDE" entry from the following registry key: HKEY_LOCAL_MACHINE\SYSTEM\CURRENTCONTROLSET\SERVIC ES\VXD\IOS.
Go to Start/Run, type regedit, click OK, and click the pluses for the above path until you get to the IOS folder, then click on it. If there is an entry there called "NOIDE", right click on it, click Delete, click Yes to the warning, close Regedit, and restart the computer. Windows will attempt to initialize the protected mode driver for the controller. If no
further problems are encountered, then everything should then work in the 32-bit mode.
