Heyo.

Okay so I'm looking at a new hard drive and would own it by now if it weren't for this one question holding me back.

"If I purchase a new hard drive, can I simply insert my Windows XP disc to install it?"

I still have my product ID, all Windows XP Software and Installation discs, and everything else that came with it. Basically I'm wondering if anyone knows if XP comes with some sort of auto-install that will launch upon inserting it-- even with a new, fresh, blank hard drive.

Unfortunately, I don't want to spend 300 dollars on a new Windows XP os, So it'd be great if someone could help me out here. Thanks

Hard drives generally come with software to install them... You can use WinXP to partition and format it from Admin Tools once it is installed... If you are talking about installing WinXP on the drive, you will need to install the drive first and then do the install....

Ah...how idiotic of me not to think that hard drives came with installation software...tisk tisk.

Thanks, Budfred.
