PC World ran a survey and posted the results:

Guess which service is on top and guess which one is on the bottom?

I was close. I chose Roadrunner as best and AOHell as worst.

I use gwi.net broadband which is through Verizon, the best rated DSL, but although a smaller company, they are slightly superior but were not in the ratings. AAMOF, when I download some of the security softwares like (I forget which ones) AVG or a spyware prevention app, it is hosted by my isp. I've never seen any apps of this type hosted by Verizon or any of the others for that matter.

And just like the survey mentions, this dsl consumer/user is happy as a clam with them and I plan to stay with them. At 2MBps downloads, I see no reason for me to switch to my sole choice of (the personally despised) Adelphia for cable internet service. I also heard they have been sold and divided so who's to know how it will affect my area. But if you look in the chart, they are at the bottom of cable providers so my sentiments are also shared with others.

Adelphia is being split between Comcast and RoadRunner, this already approved by the Bankruptcy Court judge. Comcast was in the middle of the range on the survey, much better than Adelphia.

I guess I've been lucky with Comcast, 3 1/2 years and maybe 3 outages lasting no more than an hour or so...

I could not disagree more. Since Comcast toll over from Excite@Home, their service has been flawless.... Speed is amazing. It's rarely down.

I have Road Runner and have been very happy. They tied for second. I wouldn't say their tech guys are very knowledgeable, but the speed and reliability has been great. Only two outages in the last two years that I can remember, and only for about an hour each time. They just laid new cable throughout my city and surrounding area right before I signed up two years ago.

I'm with sbc yahoo, but i do not use the yahoo part of install. I do not need it.
Firefox is better to get on line and go where i want. Down time 6 hour in four years
from an ice storm.good upload and download speeds.

FTT:
I use gwi.net
There is nothing wrong with using a local ISP. You get local technical support instead of having to phone India for outsourced first tier support. I know there is a small ISP in Bassman's area (Sonic.net) that is going through SBC Yahoo lines but has better satisfaction ratings than the telcom. Covad DSL out here also has better than average ratings for the same reasons.
I am actually looking at switching to Comcast as they offer 4mbs service for the same price as what SBC Yahoo DSL is charging for 384K.

Disagree with the survey or with me? I'm perfectly happy with Comcast...I think we're on the same page...

.
I have DSL with SBC Yahoo. I've had it about a week now and am happy with it. I don't use the Yahoo browser as I'm OK with IE. Previously I had a cable connection with Road Runner. It was OK, but with my DSL connection the price is a whole lot less and the speed is almost as fast as Road Runner High Speed and a lot faster than Road Runner Lite. When I first got Road Runner, I got their high speed and the cost was $44.95 a month. I later switched to Road Runner Lite and the cost was $26.95 a month. My DSL connection is costing $14.95 a month for the first year and then it will go to their regular price of $24.95. When I had the RR High speed I could download a file at about 250K/sec. With the RR lite a file would come down at about 45K/sec. With my DSL I can download a file at about 165K/sec.

I urge you to try Firefox (http://www.mozilla.org/products/firefox/)
