Hi everyone, I have a problem with my Local Area connection and was wondering if someone could help.
I just re-formatted my hard drive and installed Windows XP, as well as the latest updates (including Service Pack 2). Everything was working fine, then without warning, I started to lose connectivity in all my programs like Internet Explorer, MSN Messenger, Outlook Express etc. All this would suddenly occer even though I am still connected to the cable modem, with the icon in the system tray still showing active packets being sent and received.
I've tried running virus scans, ad-scans, spyware scans and everything is clean. Re-booting the computer helps, but the problem will occur immediately after a few minutes of connection. However, when I run the system in Safe mode, everything works perfect.
Since there is no visible disconnection from my LAN, it's very difficult to determine the problem. Running ipconfig /all and /renew seem to show no problems. I have no idea why my programs would suddenly fail to detect an internet connection.
I hope someone here can help me out! Thanks a lot!

The first thing I would try is the network cable. The nest thing I would do is run Hijack this and post a log.

Why did you reformat the computer?

I'm not sure if this had anything to do with it, but the problem started after my Symantec Anti-virus program detected (and deleted) this file:
C:\windows\system32\winxsys.exe
Threat: W32.Spybot.Worm

I reformatted my hard drive because I was having a problem with my LAN the previous installation. This time, the network would keep connecting and disconnecting every 15 seconds or so, to 'acquire network address'. I couldn't figure out how to solve this problem, but I know it was Kazaa that started it. I'm not planning to install any file-sharing programs in future to avoid this problem.

So you were having network problems and reformatted, reinstalled the OS and are having networking problems. Still think it was Kazaa?
Could have a hardware problem..
