Welcome to http://www.pcguide.com/ubb/pcgubb.gif
I split your post off into its own thread since you posted to a thread that was more than 2 years old... You are probably more likely to get the help you need this way...
It would be a good idea if you post more info about your situation... Do you have one of these notebooks and you are looking to upgrade it?? Are you looking to buy a new notebook??
If you have one, you can probably find info quickest by going to the HP website and entering the name and model number of your notebook to find out what the specs are and what it allows... Most notebooks will be able to handle bigger hard drives, but the RAM will be limited...

The memory upgrades possible are detailed at http://www.satech.com/compaq-notebook-memory-compaq-armada-memory-compaq-armada-1590-memory.html
Not much by present standards. 144 meg will not allow you to even install Win XP, but Win98 would be happy at that.
What do you want to use this machine for?

I do have one that was given to me. I bought a 20 gig hard drive for it and a 128 stick of memory and am trying to install windows 2k on it now.

The minimum requirements for Win2K are 133Mhz processor, 64meg RAM, and 2gig hard drive space. Anything over that is better, particularly with the system RAM so you should be OK with that.

Good morning all, I am having all kinds of trouble with this thing. I have the floppy startup disks for win 2k. It goes through its thing all the way to starting windows and then in gives me an error which I can't figure out. this is the error message it keeps giving me. "Value 0 on the line in the section {sourcediskfiles} with key "sp1.cab".
I have no idea what this means....I know my win 2k is good and so are the startup disks. I just don't get it.

You should be able to boot from the Win2K CD to do an install, no need for the floppies.
In the BIOS, set the boot order to CD-Rom, hard drive. Reboot, with the Cd in the drive, and it should start up OK.
