Hi everybody,

New to WiFi, need some advice. Want to set a stand alone single PC wireless camera system but not sure if I need a router. Can someone please advise.

Thanks,

Welcome to the PC Guide Discussion forums!
Please explain the setup a bit better. Do you mean a camera that sends a signal to the PC without wires? Does the PC connect to the Internet or anything else? If so how do you connect it? Does your PC have wireless connectivity already?

Once we have those answered we can recommend wireless access points/routers/adapters if needed.

Hi PrntRhd,

Yeah, sorry, forgot to explain more clearly. Okay, yeah exactly what you said, main thing is a wireless cam sending a signal to PC. PC will only be used for this purpose hence stand alone. Haven't actually set up the PC yet which is why looking for best advice on how to do it. Thinking of using a usb adapter as was told this would get better signal coverage especially through a lot of concrete and between floors.

As far as I understand, routers are generally used only for internet connection. I like to find out if I can set up a cam system without.

Hope this is clear,
Pagan D

Sounds like you wouldn't need a router just for it. A router is if you wanna connect two or more computers together, so you should be fine without it.
