I have a usb wifi a/b/g dongle to my xphome desktop with dialup internet and an a/b/g wifi built in my xppro notebook ...the guest account is activated. I can use the wired lan (via rj45 crossover cable) to do fileshare and internet from the notebook. I used to be able to do all that via wifi too. I went to a hotel and used their free wifi high speed internet. Since my return home, I can no longer get the wifi to do BOTH fileshare and internet. Right now it will do fileshare. The other day I got it to do internet but not fileshare and the next day when I booted it no longer would connect at all. The usb wifi dongle (access point, not router) has connection software with it and I can't connect using that or windowsxp. The laptop has IBM connection manager on it and was connecting fine before I left. I deleted everything, bridged and unbridged, redid it all, uninstalled the hardware on both machines and let xp detect it, took a walk around the house to cool off!! I am not a computer expert, but I am not an idiot either. I read the MS knowledgebase listed in another thread here. I am stumped! Any help appreciated! Both machines have sp2 on them. The one time I got internet to work the other day, the laptop caused the desktop to dial the connection. The dialup has username&password which are stored and automatically given by the dialer supplied by the isp.

so...I followed the article here http://www.microsoft.com/downloads/details.aspx?familyid=1DCFF3CE-F50F-4A34-AE67-CAC31CCD7BC9&displaylang=en exactly, and lo-and-behold it worked and I had printer/file share and internet share...rebooted the 2 computers and nothing works, back to square 1 ...how come?

each time I want to connect, I have to fiddle with each computer over and over using the "repair" and stuff like that...also, I have to use static IP addresses to get it to work both fileshare and internet share of the dialup ...if I let the notebook access the address automatically, it will allow fileshare but not isp sharing...what a mess!! What I want to do is to be able to turn on my desktop (even with the monitor shut off) and take my notebook into the livingroom and start up and have it establish the wifi, activate the dialer, and allow me to surf the net and share the files on the desktop...how come I can't get back to that point?

to get to this point, I have disabled the ethernet adapter (wired) and deleted all the bridges...

ICS does DHCP/NAT, its your wifi router also doing DHCP/NAT

I do NOT have a router, only 2 access points in ad-hoc network.

...as of this time I can connect with fileshare and internet share but each time I do I have to fiddle around for around 15min doing repeated "repairs" etc. Finally, it does it. How come this fantastic hassle?
