I have a Dell Latitude C810 purchased in January 2002 running Windows XP Professional, 512mb RAM. Motherboard was replaced about a year ago under warranty - the audio jack had broken loose from the motherboard, otherwise everything worked flawlessly, until this past month...

Over the past month, my system has suddenly lost all power a total of about 5 times. It seems to be random, and cannot be forced to be duplicated.

I also have checked my settings, and my system is not set to just turn off in the event of critical errors.

I am plugged into a medium-scale UPC battery backup / power conditioner that does not report any problems during self-test.

This problem has happened both while docked and undocked from the port replicator, and has happened both on battery and wall power.

Any help will be greatly appreciated. I am trying to put off buying a new system for at least another 6 months, but I need to know what's happening with my system so I know if I can make it that long.

Thanks!

Tim

My laptop used to have a problem where both the AC port and the battery were damaged, and after awhile of using the computer off the adapter it would start to shut down on me like you mentioned, I checked my battery life, and at 100% full it had about 10 minutes left, and if I listened to any music or ran any programs it would take a lot of life out of it, so I'd suggest checking the battery life and see how many minutes you get out of it when its full because that might be the problem, if so either send your laptop in to get fixed under warenty, or replace the battery, I'm sorry if this doesnt help.
