Taken from Fred Langa News Letter:
If WPA is triggered for any reason--- any reason at
all--- and you are unable or unwilling to complete the activation
process, then you'll at least be unable to use your software. And in the
worst case (with the Windows XP operating system) it's possible that you
can end up totally locked out of your PC. (See http://www.informationweek.com/story/IWK20020131S0005 )

Yeah, I experienced this first hand...new mobo with built-in NIC. Left the hard drive alone just to see if it would boot before the reinstall...
Wouldn't let me adjust my network settings so I couldn't connect to the internet to even attempt to re-activate...
Additionally, the hardware code that was supposed to appear for me to type into the phone activation system consisted of all dashes and since this was late at night, there didn't seem to be much chance of talking to a real person...
So I worked around it...leave it to M$ to make you pirate software you have actually purchased. Last time I make the mistake of giving them my money...
On the other hand, Mandrake 8.1 runs beautifully. Multiple desktops, free compilers, superior memory usage. And, to top it all off, it was a piece of cake to install. No activation, and the price of free (well actually it cost me about $1 for the 3 blank cds I had to burn) is tough to beat.

So Hired....you like Mandrake 8.1 too?
Runs like a champ on my anemic little HP....and my kids are even buggin me to put it on their machine.....

Yeah, I'm a big fan...still have to master staroffice, but as far as web browsing and listening to mp3s, it's a great choice...
And unlike a normal M$ OS, (except for 2000 and XP Pro) it supports dual processors...
In the long run, I think most people may go to Linux for the desktop. Less computer literate folks may stick with M$ for good, but kids are growing up with computers, will be exposed to Linux, and if for no reason other than price, will probably migrate to the far more versatile OS...

Star OFfice is pretty cool....been using the Windows version for about a year now, need to get the Linux version......
