This is a statue of the Duke of Wellington located at the East end of Princes Street, Edinburgh, Scotland.
It's outside the General Register Office for Scotland [where they keep all the Birth, Marriage, Death records going back into the mists of history].
For those of you who have Scottish ancestry, their BMD records may be held there.
The records can be accessed online here http://www.scotlandspeople.gov.uk/

This is above the Floral Clock in the West section of Princes Street Gardens, looking North West.
Princes street only has shops on the North side; the gardens and the Castle are on the South side.

from the steps below the Floral Clock.
Edinburgh Castle is up on the left.
This was taken on a Saturday afternoon just after a shower of rain, which kept most people sheltering in the shops.

Main hall within Blair Castle.
The stark contrast between the bright window light and unlit interior made this difficult to get right.
It does however give some idea of the impressive and beautiful interior.

All but 2 were taken with a dinky little 5 Megapixel digital "Centon DC5".
It tends to make me think of a piece of jewelry rather than a camera.

Photographic image of a Marriage entry for the year 1814,
taken from a page of the Parish Register,
for the Parish of Gateshead, County Durham, England.
The Marriage was conducted in Saint Mary's Parish Church, Gateshead.

The register was nicely printed I thought, and quite neatly completed.
I've seen records produced recently that are not so well done.

This, and the others following, were taken during the "Edinburgh International Festival" - Opening Parade on Sunday August 7th 2005.
There was an enormous number of superb motorbikes. The sounds of the engines were just great! Photo's can't do justice to such things.
Missed taking photo's of lots of other magnificent sights because in error I'd fitted my 32MB memory card in place of the 128MB; YIKES!

The following 2 photo's are of "The Falkirk Wheel".
This device replaces a number of canal "locks" to allow vessels to drop or rise in level between lower and higher level canals.
This is part of "The Forth & Clyde Canal" between Glasgow in the west and Edinburgh in the east of central Scotland.
This "wheel" is placed at a junction that allows a branch off to Grangemouth on the river Forth.

That's a very interesting 'Ferris wheel'... :p
but your resolution and clarity are suffering compared to some of your other posts. <60kb for a 900x550pixel pic is too low! You should set it closer to around 250kb or just under what the limit is for Photobucket's size allowed is. We'd see MUCH more detail that way. :)
Even your pics on page 1 that were 117kb are much nicer. If your camera was accidentally set to a lesser quality, just resize the pics down a bit so the blurriness or pixelation is less noticable.

The camera may be faulty. :(
[Trying to decide if that's so.]
Perhaps it's because the battery is low on charge?
It keeps telling me there is "No card" [memory card].
I had difficulty getting it recognised by the PC, but eventually managed it.
The 60 kB photo was really poor right from the moment it was taken.
The image size is set high [2560x1920 = 4.9 megapixels].
Usually the file size is large when first taken and reduces dramatically when I use "Microsoft Photo Editor" to "Image->Balance" and adjust the "Gamma" & "Contrast" to brighten and intensify.
I assume that only eliminates unnecessararily high precision [large groups of (nearly) identical pixels].

The best pics are taken with no effects whatsoever. Just the settings you choose with the camera.
The second best ones are the ones only a simple cropping is needed.
Gamma? White Point? Most times all I'll do is adjust a bit of contrast or brightness. Anything beyond that, I work on how I am 'taking' the pic, not how I need to manipulate it.
Au-Naturaul... is best.

Got an email from Anne, who lives 5 miles north of Stevensville in Montana, USA about the above photo of the fire.
Here's some of what she said:
"the picture of the fire, was taken by a man that lives here in Florence, (with his parents, when he isn't off around the world taking pictures!) His last name is Kinsey (I don't know his first name) Don't mind me, but I can't remember exactly what year it was taken 2002? Anyway, it was the year that we had all the fires around us. The smoke in the valley was choking! Lasted for weeks! The picture was taken down around the West Fork of the Bitterroot River. He made one mistake. He didn't copywrite it!
I am sure it has been around the world a few times now. It wasn't taken in Oregon, but down the Valley from me. Of course I say 'down' cause it's South but the River runs North so the 'natives' say Up the Valley! I get taken up on it all the time!
His parents are our Newspaper Deliverers!. His mother writes a monthly
Newsletter, which tells us all that her family is doing and what she 'runs into' on her delivery rounds! Yes, She has 'run' into deer, skunks, whatever happens to be out at 4 a.m. in the morning! She said that her Son was over in Africa taking 'safari' pictures just now!
That 'Wheel' is really impressive!!! I had heard of it, but never saw a picture of it. Loved the Belly Dancers!!"

Correction from Anne...
"I called Mrs Kinsey to ask her about her Son and the picture...She called me back just before dinner time and said "Her Son DIDN'T take that particular picture" !!??" (Well, that was a revelation !) She told me all about it. It was taken by a Forest Service employee and they are not allowed to 'make any money' on anything they do that has to do with their 'work day'. (Other than their wages) So, it was distributed over the internet. NO COST to anyone wanting to print it out!! Millions of people did! Mrs Kinsey said her son arrived at the fire and all the major News outfits were there, but the smoke was so thick, they couldn't get any pictures. He set up his camera, (the News guys were impressed with his equipment) and offered to 'buy' anything he happened to get! It was a Video Camera! Special long distance coverage with it. The wind shifted and he took Pictures!!! Got some pretty spectacular ones. Offers from News agency as far away as Germany, wanting his pictures!
I asked her Where the picture was actually taken and When (I told her that you were captioning the picture and I wanted the true facts about it). She said she will check it all out with her Son and write the details on my morning paper! So, hopefully, I will have all the 'right' information on it, in the morning. She said it was in 2000 and was on one of the Forks of the Bitterroot River, down around Sula. ( Which is South of Darby)...
Got a little more info. Just that it was in the 2000's fires and it was taken at the EAST Fork of the Bitterroot River. We had Fire Crews in from all over the world. As far away as New Zealand. I think Australia, too. As the crow flies, we were about 40 miles from the BIG one, (where the picture was taken)."
