View Full Version : Grrrr. IDE connections to MOBO shut off devices

350 atx box
Abit KR7A raid board
1800 althon
256 ddr X 2
ATI Radeon 8500
WD 40 gig 7200 HD
Creative CD only
standard floppy

Ok Installed board, and IDE devices CD, floppy and HD, when I turn on the machine I get no video, and also when I plug in the IDE cables to MOBO the power turns off, on whatever device is attached to that cable, Unplug from board power returns. pulled board from box and CD still did the same thing, Bad board or Power suppply. I bought the box at a computer expo. made in china.

Hello Spun and Welcome,
First things first. NEVER plug and unplug things on your system when it is powered up. From what you have written, that is how it appears.
Second, are you certain of the pin 1 alignment in relation to your ribbon?
The "No video" could be a number of things. Bad or improperly installed RAM, bad or improperly installed vid card, bad mobo.

If you have been hot pluging things, it's possible something has been shorted out and would take extra everything to test. A level of voltage that we cannot even feel is all it takes to destroy computer components.

I will test everyting in my compact pc ,and try a pci vid card on the board. still no power to the CD, HD or floppy from the start. Power comes on when I unhook the IDE cables from the MOBO.

sounds like IDE Controler is gone?

Maybe but I have 4 ide plugs on board 2 are for raid same thing happens, when i plug in the raid plugs? I have been reading that cables may cause this type of problem will try nem Ide cables.
