Trend Micro released a bad update in April which took down subscriber's PC (not their online scan). This mistake is costing them dearly:

The company quickly set up a call center to field enquiries, and issued updates that when uploaded automatically cleared the problem. The $8 million costs were largely incurred by the call center, which operated over weekends and through Japanese public holidays, and by advertising costs, Ikenomoto says.
That right there speaks volumes. They made a mistake. They took responsibility. They acted admirably even though it would hit their bottom line. Did Norton do that when major bugs were reported in their suites? Did Zone Labs when update 5.x to Zone Alarm Pro was a disaster? Has M$ ever done anything like that?
