View Full Version : Won't POST

Seems to be a common occurance, but I'm asking for some additional feedback.

I have a ECS K7SEM with a AMD Athlon XP 1500+. I was using it as a file server for some time and had decided to rebuild it into a HP Pavilion mini-ITX case, (I have a question about the HP board and 600mHz CPU that came with it in another thread,) to make it a little less cumbersome.

Now, for some background, I have two K7SEM's and two CPU's, (left over from upgrade's). One was used for the server and worked fine. One had given me some trouble with startup and was relegated to being a spare.
I installed the server components into the new case, I get nothing. No startup or even POST. I have tried various combinations of CPU, board, and memory. I hooked up the speaker, (the manual specifies posts 1,3,5, and 7 for speaker hookup, and I tried all combinations,) but upon powerup, there is no beep code at all. I have also tried power up with the components removed from the case to check for shorts with no success.
As I said, the original MB and CPU were operating just fine in the other case and there was no removal of the CPU from the board during transfer. So I'm confused as to how I can have a sudden and cataclysmic failure of so many components?

If anyone can make any sense out of this and give me some advice, I would very much appreciate it.

Cheers,

Priest

Are the lights and fans working?
