Hi guys!
First of all, sorry for my english i am not so good at it.
So here is the issue that my notebook has.
I have a Sony Vaio PCG-NVR23 Laptop.CPU: Mobil AMD Athlon XP 1800+ at 1.533 GHZ , Busspeed 266 MHz
What happend was, I was watching a movie on it and it froze. When I tried to reboot it didn't power on.It smelt like something burnt out inside of the computer.
Can it be the CPU?Or what else?Thank you for any idea.

If you can smell something burning out of your laptop then I'd say there's a problem with the inside of the computer. If it doesnt turn on at all then it most likely is, if it powers on but doesnt load then you may just need to recover, I had problems like that also, but it was mainly because of my AC adapter port and my battery, I'd suggest sending it in to where ever you got it from to get it fixed if you have a warrenty.

Are fairly common on this model. Did the cooling fan crank up full tilt prior to freeze? I'd try swapping the CPU first but you probably have bigger issues. Pull the RAM out and run on one stick first hitting the reset button and trying/swapping slots. good luck!

Hmmm...burnt smells are never a good thing. The most common item to fail on a laptop is the CPU fan, which in turn can and usually does fry the CPU. Most laptops do not have replaceable (or upgradeable) CPUs, they are built onto the motherboard, requiring a complete motherboard replacement. Last one I looked up was well over $500...
You might get lucky, I don't know how Sony sets up their BIOS or laptop software, but if it has a thermal shutdown option that shuts the entire machine down if the fan stops, you might be able to just replace the fan and carry on. Do check the memory issue noted above too, if your model has issues with the RAM chips or slots, you need to know if that is causing trouble too.
Oh, almost forgot...the first thing to do is check to see if the computer is still under warranty, if it is, definitely use that warranty. Laptop repairs and replacement parts are not cheap. Or easy...

Has a socket mounted CPU.. As do most notebooks unless you get into the Z1 series Sonys with a BGA mount Centrino.. You can however change your CPU w/no trouble..
