 I recently purchased a Latitude C810 from the company I work for. The unit came with Windows 2000 and I have (I think) sucessfully installed XP although boot up, seems to hang for an excessive amount of time. Anyway on to the real problem. I replaced the fixed bay CD-RW that came with the machine with a Toshiba CD-RW/DVD-ROM model # SD-R2102. When I attempted to play a DVD movie, Windows Media informed me I needed a DVD Codecs so I installed Video Studio 9 and away she be go but no sound. I assume I need something besides the codecs that comes with Video Studio or am I seeing a bigger problem such as a conflict with this drive?
Should make note that I get sound fine when I play an audio CD in this drive and the laptop sound system seems fine for all other activities. I have also upgraded the SD-R2102 firmware with no results.

Welcome to thehttp://www.pcguide.com/ubb/pcgubb.gif Forums!
I was trying to find information on Video Studio 9. It appears that this is some sort of editing software. I was not able to determine if it is actual DVD player software such as PowerDVD, or ULead DVD Player, or the likes of Direct DVD...

What does Device Mahnager look like? Any problems there?
Did you install all the drivers for the laptop? Sound, vid, wireless, etc?

Thanks for quick replies. First off, Vidio Studio 9 is Uleads Movie Editor so it might not have the correct codecs. Will have to pick up DVDPlayer or perhaps since I own Ulead software already, perhaps I should check with them. Any suggestions on better software for my purpose. I am not interested in editing on my laptop, bought it to watch movies in travel trailer.
As far as the drivers are concerned, I did not attempt to load any more drivers than Windows loaded when I installed the new DVD/CD-RW in place of the CD-RW. I have thought about formatting the drive and reloading XP as I am still having the long bootup problem (no problem with Windows 2000) and this may be related to sound card driver problem anyway. Just hoping I could get this thing working quickly before we leave on holidays.

Usually when you buy DVD hardware the manufacturer includes the software to play DVDs...
Is is possible that you might have overlooked a DVD player on the Ulead disk?

Thanks for all your help. Solved it. Purchased PowerDVD and it solved the problem with audio on DVD playback. Finally got laptop on the net and updated XP and all my drivers and slow boot problem disappeared also. Thanks again.
