Yes, something to be concerned about. But would it be any better if (fill in you favorite name: IBM, Sun, Oracle, etc.) did it? Someone is always first in pushing the envelope.

I take issue with one statement in the article -- the pupose of patents is for the social good (or words to that effect). The purpose of patents is to register the valid owner of the patentable object so the owner may assert their ownership rights of control.
