Hi
I am trying to share my wireless connection with my VOIP router from my laptop.
In the hotel I am receving the signal through wireless ( they do not have ethernet ports), so how do i connect my VOIP router from the ethernet port in the laptop?
I have a wireless card and ethernet port.
thanks in advance

Hi - welcome aboard!
This is a bit of a chicken and egg situation - the router is normally the gateway to the internet, so things are a bit screwy.
The way things need to work (I assume that you want to plug in a VOIP device into the router to use it) is to enable ICS on your wireless network connection, and then configure the router to use your laptop's ethernet address as a gateway (I think you would have to bridge the ethernet and wireless networks in your laptop) and plug the WAN connection of the router into your laptop.
You can then connect your VOIP device into the router (of course it will need to be configured first!)
Of course this assumes that your router does not have any built in 'modem' and the WAN connection is a standard ethernet connection. You will need to connect to the router in the normal way first in order to configure the addressing, and also to your VOIP device in order to set it up before you use your laptop as a gateway.
Sounds confusing? It is a bit weird, and I'm making some educated guesswork with the bridging - this isn't something I've tried (although I'm going ot have to, just to see what happens!)
...........One thing though - could you not just plug your VOIP device into the ethernet port of your laptop and skip the router altogether?

Hi Deddard
Right now what I have is a wireless laptop ( which receives the signal through wireless card) and a VOIP Router which is connected to the laptop ethernet port.
And a regular phone is connected to the VOIP Router which has the regular phone jacks.
So , My problem is how do I share the connection from the wireless laptop to VOIP router.
I would appreciate a step by step configuration..
Again thank you in advance.
Kind Regards
