I recently retrofitted a chaintech 7vjl6 with athlon xp 2400 cpu onto my old Compaq Deskpro case. When I start it up it beeps once and goes to the bios screen where it gives me a post code 52 then 65 and if it has not turned off by then it says post code 72 error. It will not go farther than that. Now i think that this problem is one of these reasons
1.) Case is old and a compaq so i had to take the power switch and retrofit it into the front panel connector since the connections were totally different.
2.) I think the power supply is too weak. I have a 200w powersupply for an athlon xp 2400 with 256mb of ram, 6gig hdd, 16mb agp graphic card, cd rom, and floppy. How much power do i need?
What do these post codes mean and can i fix this?
thanks

What BIOS and what revision would be the first questions.

Here's a link to BIOS Central. (http://bioscentral.com/) BIOS error code links are located on the left and right sides.

As for the PSU--there's no way I would run with a 200 watt power supply. Based on this chart (http://www.pcpowercooling.com/technology/power_usage/) from PC Power and Cooling, even at minimum power draws from those components, you've exceed its rated output  --maybe not by much, but why risk it?

Good luck

how do i know which bio and version it is? When i do goto the website, i see that there are multiple versions and for the postcode 52, it says to test keyboard and for 72 it says check configuration. What does that mean? Also they is no postcode for 65 on that website. Will I be able to fix this computer or is it a lost cause?
thanks
