I am sharing my wireless network with my neighbor and want to make sure he only access to the internet and is not downloading copyrighted material under my ip. My system is set-up as follows:

Cable Internet Broadband Modem (Adelphia)

to

WIRED LINKSYS ROUTER - Setup to 192.168.1.1
-my hard wired compter is on this router
-my second hard wired compter is on this router

to

WIRELESS LINKSYS ROUTER - Setup to a subnet of 192.168.2.1
-my laptop shares this connnection wirelessly ( I don't need any ports
open but internet)
-my neighbor shares this connection wirelessly

Question # 1

How do I filter the ports so that the wireless network can only access the internet? I have tried filtering the ports and it cuts off all connections. How do I only allow the internet ports and nothing else?

Question # 2

How safe are my home compters hard wired to the initial router in relation to access from the second router?

If you can help me out it would be greatly appreciated.

Thanks,

what ports are you goign to block? You need ports for HTTP,SMTP, Pop3, DNS, SSL all open.

You dont need to bloack the HTTp port since you may lose fully your internet connections. you can use a firewall utility to bloack some applications like P2P if you dont want him/her to download anything out of P2P, like kazaa. If you have access though in his/her PC, you can do the necessary filtration of certain application he/she can only use.

Without unfettered access to his PC, you will NOT be able to control what he downloads via a peer to peer network. Unless you setup a proxy server, it's a free for all.
