Is there an extension that does this? I thought I remembered some of you talking about it but I can't find it anywhere. Last night, I wound up on some dubious web sites, surfing in muddy waters so to speak, and a number of things I thought were scripts attempted to run but I was able to intercept them with some effort. If there is such an extension, how has it worked for you?

It is called NoScript and should be available in the master Extensions list that you can access from the FireFox site...

Thanks. I looked for that very name, but on the ExtensionsMirror. I'll look at the home site.

Thanks Budfred. I got it and it's working. It is nice that you can add sites to allow scripting (e.g., PCGuide). But when I added majorgeeks.com, it still partially blocks some scripting just loading the page. I'm not concerned right now with that though.

EDIT: I can see this extension will require some wee bit of work--adding all the sites that use scripting AND that I deem OK to do so. Kind of like special rules for a firewall app, only simpler. That's fine, it's better than the script madness I had going on last night. No damage there BTW--thank goodness

Thanks again.

I am not sure, but I believe it blocks scripts that are not native to the site when you allow scripts on the site... I think that is why is says "JavaScript Partially Allowed"....

If that "not native to the site" is what's happening, I think that's a smart approach.

It can make some sites non-operative to be Nixonian. But it's worth it for the safety. I have had no hint of spyware since I went to FF with NOSCRIPT. It's not for the faint of heart. Some of my clients would never be able to be on the web with it.
