After I upgraded my system to 3G (up from two 512M sticks), I began to have a couple of strange problems with my PC. One problem is that it takes about a minute or two for my system to start power on self test.
After this completes my SCSI drives will only sync at 40Ms instead of 160 (my mobo has an onboard adaptec 160 controller). I kinda figure this some sort of power supply problem but unless I understand which kind it is, a replacement will not solve my problems.

After checking the output specs on the P/S case I got the following figures:
+5V @ 27A
+3V3 @ 45A
+12V @ 16A
+5sb @ 3A
-12 V @ .6

Can anyone give me an idea why the memory would drag the P/S down so much? (any combo of the new memory sticks will do it).

It seems as if no matter which P/S I research one of the ratings is a little lower than the one I have.

Any ideas from anyone?

Ray

Download and run Memtest86 (http://www.memtest.org/#downiso) to test your new RAM.

I'm still trying to figure out how 1 + 1 + 1/2 gigs = 3gigs...

If you've heard of weird science you should understand weird math.
that should be 2 sticks of 512M. I should change my profile.

Thx for the down load.
I'll try it out.

I did further internet search on "power supply" and found the following:
It looks like memory affects/uses +5V.
the mobo uses 3.3, +12, and +5.
However, all the PCI type devices (PCI-lan, PCI-modem, sound etc.) also use +5.
Other Devices use a combo of +5V, and +12V
I believe that maybe my 5V is the most affected by the extra memory.

However, I will put my system back together and run some memory tests and let you know the outcome.
