OK, system specs are in order.

Is this a fairly new machine? off the shelf or custom built? still under warranty?

Some motherboards have a safety feature to prevent damage to the CPU...they shut down immediately when the detect a fan failure, so the first place to check is to make sure that your fans are operating.

before I got this reply I ended up changing the power supply because it was shorting out. So the Pc stays on but it still goes into the menu for loading option. Mormal, bootlogged,safe-mode,step by step, command prompt etc how do I get it from going into this menu option and straight to windows?

Run msconfig and under the troubleshooting tab uncheck the startup menu option.

On my win98se machine, I don't have a troublshooting tab in msconfig? I use TweakUI and under the boot tab I can check or uncheck "Always show boot menu".
