A friend of mine's P4 computer has a broken CPU fan holder.
Only thing I can think of is using super-glue and put it in,
but the heat may melt it agian.
I looked for CPU Fan holder and the only thing that I can find
is this soyo cpu fan holder and I am not sure if it will fit
in my friend's computer.

Is the P4 fan holder a standard in size and how it attaches to the
motherboard? Or does it vary depending on different motherboards?

Is there another name it goes by which will bring me more search result than this Soyo one that I found from Yahoo Shopping site?

My friend's motherboard is FoxConn brand. I don't know the exact model.

My friend doesn't know much about computer at all, so I am writing this for him. Please help... Thanks.

Use one of those glues that comes in two tubes; one of epoxy resin, the other of hardener.
Small blob of each, mix together, the resin then begins to set, heat helps it set, takes some hours, leave it overnight, 300 tons per square inch strength.
The problem is how to get the parts to stay together during the setting process.
Use a thin [metal] rod to apply it, difficult to work with, but finished result worth the effort.

Epoxy should work, if you do use it, check the amounts carefullly, it must be equal amounts of both parts to work properly and hold well. The stuff in the syringe should work ok but I use the individual tubes, it has been around for at least 30 years and works.

in most cases you can take the entire clip off the motherboard, it has 4 screws, then use something like large alligator clips to hold it together while the glue sets. Then don't trust it, find a replacement soon as you can.

I think it's called a heatsink retainer or tensioner, I had to replace a broken one a few months ago, it wasn't easy to find and cost me $10 for a used one. Check with local computer shops for one or for a dead motherboard with one on it, they should be interchangeable.

Did I really say 300 tons per square inch?
That's me going from data stored away in my memory 30 years ago!
I think it's more likely 3 tons per square inch.
The point is that it's pretty strong stuff.

Thank you all. I will see if I can search for "heatsink retainer". If not, I guess I will try this Epoxy stuff.

I've also only seen them around (very rarely) for $10 each. I think that's the cheapest one I found. Those things don't grow on trees and are very difficult to get ahold of. Which I think is odd considering how many P4 mobo's are out there that are likely to have this problem!

You can get them for ten bucks shipped on ebay.
