Opera had been telling websites it was IE to keep error messages away from users, however this had a side effect where browser ratings show higher for IE than reality and lower for Opera than reality.
The browser company altered its software to mimic Internet Explorer (IE) during the late nineties when pro-Microsoft Webmasters engineered their sites to send broken HTML code to browsers that identified themselves as Opera.
The latest release finally corrects this, so we may actually see how big or small a player Opera is vs Firefox and IE.
