***annoying Pop Ups***

Another question about being online...at have optimum online. This issue doesn't happen all the time, but it happens often enough that it's starting to really get annoying.

I'm online either browsing or playing an online game...all of a sudden, in a matter of 10 seconds, my game freezes, minimizes, and I have about 20 to 30 Internet Explorer Pop up ads. At times, my PC even freezes and I have to restart.

I close them all but then more and more pop up immediately upon closing the others. It just seems a bit too extreme even for spam and pop ups. Could it be a virus? Is there something I can do to stop this from happening?

Use Firefox or some other browser besides IE

Also when you close the popups you were having it is better to CTRL/ALT/DEL and end process rather than clicking on the 'x' on the upper right corner of the screen. Sometimes the 'x' is a disguised link.

We need a closer look at what's happening.
Please download http://www.merijn.org/files/hijackthis.zip
Copy it into its own folder, doubleclick HijackThis.exe, and hit "Scan and save log".

When the scan is finished, the log will open in Notepad. Do Ctrl-A to Select All, and copy its contents here. Most of what it lists will be harmless or even essential, don't fix anything yet.
