hi,
I have a boot problem with my pc running winxp. i formatted the drive with a win98 boot disk because didnt know how to format drive when running xp. Installed winxp fresh which worked fine for about 2 days, then when i tried to boot the pc it keeps coming with the same error. "disk boot failure insert system disk" it will boot from cd ok but won't boot from hard drive! I have formatted the drive twice now but it keeps happening a couple of days later!
The bios is set to boot from harddrive first, so i dont think it is that.

Could it be he win98 bootdisk writing to a boot log or something?
Do i need to partition the drive?

Grab the diagnostics from the hard drive manufacturer...it seems like you have a drive that is not long for this world.

but before trying above I would set BIOS to boot from CD, then place your winXP CD into the CD-ROM drive and reboot.

try installing it correctly before anything else.
