Copy the relevant files from C:\Windows\Web\Wallpaper to XP. RClick on the Desktop, choose Properies and hit the Desktop Tab and then "Browse" to wherever you placed the files.

Should have said that you can of course put them in XP's C:\Windows\Web\Wallpaper folder and have the files added to the default list.

The same will work for any picture file, BMP or JPG will work. I think GIF and PNG will work too but have never tried either.

System folder in XP may be WINDOWS or WINNT. I've never looked for that folder, but it might be in i386 too, shouldn't be hard to find though. If you save pictures to the Windows[WINNT]\Web\Wallpaper folder they should show up in the list in desktop properties. Any you have added by browsing show up as "Internet Explorer Wallpaper" in win98, I'm not sure what XP names them.

Have never seen XP's System folder become WinNT by default - though always with Win2K. I nearly always customise my own system folder's name; currently its Dogsbark and the C: drive is labelled WoofWoof.

So my own wallpaper in WinXP is on WoofWoof at Dogsbark\Web\Wallpaper ;)

I forgot to say that I want to transfer/copy them from the 98's installation disk, without installing 98 because I have already installed XP

They are kept in different .cab files on the CD. Some, bubbles.bmp for example, is in Win98__22.cab others, Wallpapr.htm for example is in Win98_49.cab.

From WinXP, RClick the Win98 folder on the CD and choose Search and enter the name of the file you want to find/extract. RClick on the found file in the Search Results and choose extract to place the extracted file to a place of your choosing.

That's awesome. How do you do that?

Well you may have a problem since you have, if memory serves, a preinstalled version of windows. You can change the label of any Drive in MyComputer by just right clicking on it and choosing, rename or properties or etc.

However - to customise your system folder's name (and location) you must choose a custom installation early on during setup from the installation files on, or copied from, a Windows installation CD. The default setting is nearly always C:\Windows (or C:\Winnt for Win2K) but you can call the folder WindowsX, WoofWoof, etc, if that takes your fancy. You can also install into another drive if that is your desire. You choose the drive by letter under Win9X/ME and by physical location under Win2K/XP.

My own reasons for doing this is because I am usually multibooting seven or eight OSes at any one time and having customised names for things helps to identify the correct installation - particularly from outside the OS.
