I have 3 invalid entries in my reg. They are as follows:"ComPlusMetaData.MsCorHost","ComPlusMetaData.MsCorHost.2","ImgUtil.Microsoft".
I have tried using Norton windoctor to repair this problem but it didn't work.I also went in the reg. to try to delete them but they can not be deleted. Any help on this would be great.
My sys. specs:
Abit IS7
P4 3.0e H/T(prescott)
ATI Radeon 9800 pro
WD 80 gig. sata x2 (Raid 0)
1gig Kingston HyperX PC2700 (dual channel) 4x 256
Win XP sp2

Welcome to the PC Guide forums!
I suspect a malware infection, so will move this to Applications and Security, please reply post in this thread there.
Download & install AdawareSE Personal Edition from here:
http://www.lavasoftusa.com/software/adaware/
Update defitions
Close browser and scan for malware
Remove all it finds wrong.
Download Ewido free trial, scan and fix what it can.
http://www.download.com/Ewido-Security-Suite/3000-8022_4-10326287.html
Then download HiJack This version 1.99.1:
http://www.merijn.org/downloads.html
install and scan. Make log, post the log back here for the experts to view and advise. Do NOT fix anything with HJT until advised.

Your HJT log seems to be clean... Are you still having a problem??
asp3132

I still have three activex/com entries in my reg. that I can't fix.
Fruss Tray Ted

How did you come to the assumption you have 'invalid' entries in your registry? Did you run a cleaner?
I use RegSeeker to clean mine but there are other good registry cleaners available, some pay, some free. I usually find that I sometimes need to run the program a few times until all the orphaned files get cleared out. But this is usually at first time use. After that, there are less files to deal with and the cleaner gets them first try after the initial run.

Well I found them originally with Norton sys. works one button check up. Then I used norton Win Doctor to try and fix the problem to no avail,Then I went in the reg. to try to manually delete them and they can't be deleted. Then I came here and was told it sounded like I had MALWARE and was told to run a few differant programs to detect it, I found 14 different files with the infection(deleted them all). But the activex/com files still are there and not working according to nortons and I still can't get rid of them.I do not know if they are a big deal or not ,but to me I can not stand to have anything on my sys. not work properly.
Thanks for all you guys help so far!

Well I suppose I will have to take the blame for removing 14 entries of malware then, but it has not yet fixed the original problem.

And I thank you very much for that.

Did you install .NET by any chance?
asp3132
08-08-2005, 11:49 AM
Dunno, If its reccomended by windows update it is possible. I have now ran regseeker twice and it has not cleared those three activex/com files though it does pick them up as invalid.

Are you logged in as Administrator when you try to kill them?? If not, try that way... You may need to check Properties and set Permissions in Advanced, but I don't know enough detail to guide you in that...
You could try this program too, it tends to work when other Registry editors won't:
download Registrar Lite:
http://www.resplendence.com/reglite
Install the program and run it
asp3132
08-08-2005, 07:51 PM
Yes I am always logged in as admin. I will try this program and see what happens.
asp3132
08-08-2005, 08:03 PM
Oh well..... That didn't work either, But now I am scared this program said access denied when I tried to delete them.
Let me know if you would like any screen shots of any of this or any other info.
Budfred

Wait for someone who knows more about the Registry... I had to go in and change permissions once, but that was more than a year ago and my memory is vague...
Fruss Tray Ted
08-08-2005, 09:25 PM
Have you tried Safe Mode yet?
asp3132

Nope I have not tried that yet. Will try and get back with you tomorrow. Thanks1

I've got the same problem with ComPlusMetaData.MsCorHost, ComPlusMetaData.MsCorHost.2 and SymWriter.pdb
I tried TuneUp and Norton. Can't delete the entries either.

Welcome to http://www.pcguide.com/ubb/pcgubb.gif
Please start your own thread in Applications and Security if you want help with that... We will probably need a HijackThis log to help you...
