A couple of weeks ago I invested in a DVD RW and installed it on my PC...well I was never able to install the software associated with the DVD drives (I tried a couple different DVD drives because I thought I had bad drives)....I would always get the error: The software is not compatible with Windows XP logo....after talking to computer rep from Best Buy about my problem they seemed to think my motherboard was bad...I have a VPR Matrix (Best Buy brand PC) it's about 3 years old. XP operating system....my question is if I do have a bad motherboard, how is it to fix?
With XP you should Not need to install drivers for the DVD-RW drive
You may need to install an update to your burning software.
But not the drivers for it
What software are you installing ?
Nero ? EZ cd ?

I've had two so....the first DVD drive was a hp and it came with RecordNow (I've never heard of this one but anyway) and the second drive was a Memorex and it came Nero...btw I installed the same drive on another pc and it work fine.
Did the Bios see the drive and auto add it to the system ?
By having the bios set to auto detect that drive id and channel ?
Also was it the only drive on the cable ?
A 3 year old system should have no problem using a DVD drive ,,
You may not need little more than a Bios update

The winXP Upgrade Advisor would have/will tell you of any software/hardware problems.
