i have a system with the following specs
Main processor: Intel Celeron, 333 MHz
Bus Type: ISA+PCI+AGP
Mainboard Model: SiS5600
Mainboard Chipset: SiS600
Bios:Amercian Megatrends (07/15/95)
Machine Type: IBM PC AT
RAM: 64MB SDRAM(100MHz speed)
i want to know whether i can upgrade this system to pentiumIII.if yes can any one provide me with proper specs and whether i can use the existing RAM[its speed is 100MHz] and does pentium III supports it.or is there any site where i can find suitable information regarding this.
i will be very thankful to any one who helps me in this matter

Hi Sat,
You need to check that you have a the right kind of socket on your motherboard... you NEED a socket 370 (for flat, square processors)
Unfortunately thou, a lot of manufacturers made Celeron-only boards for the budget market… find out the manufacturer and model of your board and post it here.
If you have the wrong socket, you need a new motherboard - also, you need to make sure this new m/b fits in your case... you say it is an AT pc, most new motherboards are ATX form and won't fit that case!! http://www.PCGuide.com/ubb/frown.gif http://www.PCGuide.com/ubb/frown.gif
If you have the right socket, you need to make sure you get the RIGHT Pentium... as there are P3 processors with the same core speed but different bus speeds!
Example:
Core speed 600 - bus speed 100
Core speed 600 - bus speed 133
The first chip would work, the second wouldn't - let me find a link... http://support.intel.com/support/processors/pentiumiii/corespeeds.htm
That should tell you the types of chips you want to look at, but you'll need to make sure your m/board can support the speed you want.
Actually, I don't think many m/b's used that SiS600, I know ASUS use 620/630 - let me check.
Ok, if that is a SOYO SY-7SBB motherboard, you are shafted... here is a picture: http://www.motherboard.cz/mb/soyo/SY-7SBB.htm
You will not get a P3 to work with that thing http://www.PCGuide.com/ubb/frown.gif

Heya,
It would be much easier to find out this info if you could find out what exact board it is, I really don't want to say "Go and buy a P3 700" and then you can't get it working.
This is quite a specific thing, there are different bus speed P3's, different sockt/slot P3's... etc. Some motherboards only support Celeron, some only support P3's.... we need to know really.
Areyou sure you can't see any model numbers at all? - look in between the PCI slots.

Without more detailed info it would be hard to say, but the chipset supports both 66 and 100 MHz FSB speeds, it is a Slot1 board, which means that you would be somewhat limited in your choices...
