I've been trying to connect a friends pc to the net (p75 w95. 33.6 robotics modem)

I am told that it was working ok up until he got it but the previous owner had done some deleted of files etc.

I set it up for Guernsey Online (friend lives in Guernsey) also Freeserve, but the modem disconnects after 6 secs or so.

I have unchecked the box 'dissconnect if not connected after ????' but makes no difference. also I have removed modem and re installed with new drivers which i d/l. still no difference.

Your best bet is to replace the modem. In most cases the modem is just having problems "talking" to the new ISP's modem bank.

You can if you want use "AT" commands to track the problem and mabey even reset the modem settings to fix it. But I find it easier to just replace the modem.

Good Luck http://www.PCGuide.com/ubb/smile.gif

EDIT You might try moving the modem to a new slot if you haven't already . Which might work, but if the modem was working fine before then my bet is still on a modem to modem compatability problem.

thanks GH,

it is an external modem, I have checked & changed the settings.

I'm probably looking at format & reinstall as some w95 files are missing, I'll try again after that, & if not look at another modem.
