To-day I received the usual Microsoft monthly alert that updates were available for my computer. I downloaded and installed the 8 critical updates successfully.

The updates alert also refers to an update for Office viz: Office XP SP3 52.3MB dated 3/30/2004. With my dial-up connection it is not practical to download a file of this size. Consequently, I thought that when I visited my daughter this week-end I would use her Broadband to download the update and then burn it to a CD which I would then use to update my computer. However I cannot find anything on the MS Update site which allows this procedure. Every avenue seems to lead back to instant download and install without the opportunity to “Save to Disk”.

Is there a procedure which would allow me to download the update on one computer and install it on another?

Is the download tailored to a specific computer or is it the actual installation process which sorts out those elements of the download required for the installing computer?

I am puzzled by the date of the update – 3/30/2004. Why the apparent time lag? I thought I had installed all updates as they were offered.

Go to http://www.microsoft.com/downloads/details.aspx?FamilyID=85af7bfd-6f69-4289-8bd1-eb966bcdfb5e&DisplayLang=en

Towards the bottom of the page select the second (full network) file of 58925 KB
under "Files in this download".

You were probably trying to download from the Windows Update Site rather than the Download section.

Paul. Thanks for reply. Hopefully I shall get the chance to download the update this week-end. You guessed correctly that I was looking at the Update site rather than Download site. Thanks again.
