Computer acting funny.

Ever since I formated my computer it's been acting werid. I formated and reinstalled Windows XP and after that every once in awhile my computer would restart, sometimes when I open Firefox sometimes random. I just got a new sound card, and I installed it the day after I have been having the restart problems so I know it couldn't be that. Here is my HJT log, anything wrong? Also my computer has been alittle slow on startup, but thats another problem. (EDIT) Before I forget, I had an error with drwtsn32.exe when I started up windows.

You need to disable TeaTimer so that these fixes will work... You can enable it again after you are clean... Please stay off of P2P until you are clean....

1) Run Spybot-S&D
2) Go to the Mode menu and make sure "Advanced Mode" is selected
3) On the left hand side, choose Tools -> Resident
4) Uncheck "Resident TeaTimer" and OK any prompts
5) Restart your computer.

Open an HJT scan and check:

O4 - HKLM\..\Run: [ShowWnd] ShowWnd.exe

Close all open windows except HJT and click Fix checked...

Use Windows to search for and delete:

ShowWnd.exe

Note that Limewire is probably how you got infected and XFire can cause some of the problems you describe....

Also, please note this description of PrismXL...
The PrismXL service lets the Client deploy Tasks on a target computer regardless of the current user.s permissions. If you didn't install it, it may need to be removed... It is a legit program, but it may be used by a malware program...

Please reboot and post a fresh HJT log and an update on how your computer is running....

Ive had ShowWnd and PrismXL when I installed Windows. Not sure how it gets there but Windows XP also installs AOL automaticly when you install windows, so who knows what else it does. Thanks VERY much, I did not know what they did, and thank you for your help.

Excuse me???? Are you sure you installed XP fresh or just installed on top of the old installation? XP does NOT install any of those other softwares on a clean install. If your's does, this makes me suspect your disk is made from a pirated download that has other junk added to it or it is a slipstreamed disk.

As FTT said, these are not part of a WinXP install... ShowWnd is part of a trojan and the other is legit, but can be used to assist malware... As I said earlier, you probably acquired them through LimeWire... WinXP also does not install AOL... If it actually did then you almost certainly have an infected bootleg...

You did not say how your system is running... If you are still having problems, we need to do deeper scans...

Also, please do not "bump" your thread... We tend to be prompt here, but we are not online 24 hours a day...

got my computer from emachines, upon windows backup they install other random stuff and doesnt give me the option of what gets installed. im not sure if showwnd was part of that or not sorry, i just remember it always being part of my machine. my computer still restarts randomly. the only thing ive been able to find out is it might be bad ram, bad video driver, or bad power suply. i tried going into bios and turning "Stay off after power failure" or something on, but so far it hasnt worked, that is if it was a power problem.

Believe me, Emachines did not give you a computer with a trojan as part of the software... You have been hijacked and you may have given all sorts of personal information away without knowing it... In addition to fixing the computer, you also need to contact your bank or credit card company if you have ever entered passwords, account numbers or other similar information online and change it all... It is a hassle, but it is a lot less hassle than the 8 years or more they say it takes to resolve identity theft... You may also be able to keep them from wiping out your bank account...

To look at the possibility of more malware....

That is associated with your video card and it should be fine... I am not aware of any malware that spoofs that company, so I think it is just mis-identified as a threat in the log...
