Not too sure where this should go so plumped for here.
I have started to make a CD\DVD of small instructional videos on the setting up and running of a computer to help new computer users. I will be putting the following readme file - (with security related links) - in it (not too many just enough to get someone started on the basics and (hopefully) not overwhelm them) onto the disk.
Could someone check it out to see if it is clear and easy to understand. Remeber that it is aimed at novices, so I have kept the program choices to just two or three of the minimum. Also tell me if\how to improve it.
I have zipped it up to reduce the size from 35kb to 8kb

ErnieK,
I am indeed a novice but your document looks OK to me. Actually I've saved it for future reference. Hope you don't mind. If you look at my one techie question, you'll see how much of a novice. I'm much more comfortable in the After Hours Club. I've posted something there this morning (you've probably heard of it before) but you should get a chuckle.

looks good to me Ernie. Maybe something of an introduction heading before jumping right into the goods. You have put a lot of work and thought into this, you deserve to let people know who you are and what you are trying to do for them.
One of the problems I keep running into is, people really want to rely on products that you get off the shelf at MegElectronics. I beleive that here in the USA we are conditioned to the idea "If I don't pay for it, it can't be any good". It is important to emphasize that the freeware products we use here are developed by people who care about the safety and security of the computer world, not just the buck that can be made from it.
Good luck with this venture ;)

Thanks guys
I did have someone point out the colour of some of text (the text that says ask for advice) on thier computer not being clear enough. On my comp it shows an orangey colour on thiers it shows sort of yellowish so I will be changing that colour to something darker.

I try to stay humble but as the song says (see link below)
http://www.minibite.com/oldies/humble.htm
But I take on board what you say and will put a wee bit about myself into the doc.
MechEngType
That is the idea behind my project. You say that you have kept my doc for future refence. You have just paid me a big compliment (THANK YOU) by saying and doing this. Even if no-one else gets any benifit you have.
Jiggy
I have just read your doc, different wording (better) and same content than mine. My reason for doing the way I did was to keep it as short as possible.
How many of us have the patience to read a 3-4 page doc? (especially when we first started out, and the reader has reading difficulties (dylexia etc - like myself. You will see that all my post consist of a maximum 3 - 4 lines as beyond that my words and lines get all jumbled up ) as well as reading from a desktop was strange (It still is for me after all this time) But I will mess about with your wording and layout and fit it into what I have.
Hopefully it will not take to long to complete. First two videos made today. Only the rest to do. :)
I am making the vid's in AVI format but will be wanting to convert to something else (to save space) which would be the best format (Real Media etc) to use, to enable as many folks as need them, to be able view without having to install large files onto thier computer.
Preferably a format that will either allow me put a viewer on disk or that a standard video program will work with.

I have put a demo file upto my website for your approval and critisisms.
If you follow the link below and then go to the bottom of the list you will see TASK MANAGER.ZIP. The file is in an SWF file format (can be viewedd using the like of Media Player Classic if your default viewer will not show it- I will be putting this on the disk) The file is 3.8MB in size and I will leave it on site for a couple of days. I have used the SWF file fomat because it reduces the file size considerably, (and besides I am to tight fisted to fork out for another converter of some sort. I could make WMV files but these are larger.[B

I like it, especially Jiggy's layout. But don't you think a link to Firefox (and a few other browsers) would also benefit anybody trying to secure their pc?
Since I've installed it, I've gone from pulling my hair out and running the removal softwares bi-weekly to actually enjoying my pc once again... It seems it almost to the point that a good A/V software is no longer the top priority for defense. The Spyware and trojan warriors are almost taking first place along with a non-vulnerable os. Viruses are still common as dirt but they infect you from careless and reckless behviour where the other malware gets you even when you think you are behaving and watching your every step. So I'm not condoning 'not' running an A/V but showing that the malware writers have shifted their efforts elsewhere in the never ending pursuit of causing mayhem on the web.

Just one thing Ernie if you don't mind me saying mate is it may have been better to create the doc in Wordpad as not everyone may have MS Word.
Apart from that it's fine.

Both points taken.

I take your point about browsers and am planning on mentioning it uring the browser intro vid. But yes I should think about putting a link in the READ me.

Once again this is a good point. I will cut and paste into wordpad.
