Shortcuts-icons

Hello,
I Have problems with shortcuts and files. They have all the same icon. Whene I for example on the desktop "refresh" select, for a half second I see the right icon but that's just for a very short time. I've windows ME and Ive tried too repair it to restore everting from a few days before. Does someone knows the problem/solution ?

Have you gone into Display Properties and click on Effects, what do you see there for desk top Icons? and what do you have a check mark after in the visual effects?

Hi Hans. If you have not yet sorted this out some feedback please.

1) Which Icon is being displayed?
2) Does this effect the MyComputer and Recycle Bin icons?
3) Does this only happen on the Desktop or in all W-Explorer Folders?
4) When you RClick on a shortcut and select Properties; is the correct icon displayed at top left of the popup box?
5) Do you know when or how this started?
6) Last but not least; have you run an uptodate virus scan of your system?

Saw mjc's advice about deleting shelliconcache. If that doesn't work there is another thing to try and that is to boot into safe mode and after the computer has loaded boot back into regular mode. Ref: http://www.techadvice.com/w98/I/IconCacheFile-rebuild.htm
