Monitor power off is intermitant

This situation isn't crucial, just an anoyance.
on the screensaver tab for the dispay properties I have the screen saver start in 15 minute. For the power settings for the monitor "Turn monitor off after "45 Min".
This will last once or twice than it fails to turn off. Somtimes it woks if I change the time. But most of the time it just decides to turn off at the specified time whenver it good and well feels like it.

Why has this become so intermitant?

Power saver settings can be troublesome, and screensavers are useless with current monitors.
Why not just set the screensaver setting to 'None', the power saver settings to 'Never', and just click 'Standby' in Start/Shutdown when your system is not going to be used for an extended period?
