Yes, any CD burner will work for you. OEM models can be had for $25.00 at your local computer store. If it lasts a year, for that price it's a deal. others will be along to critique your specs shortly.
I would recommend that you don't just toss that old computer. If the drives work you can always tranfer them into the new system easily. Having a second HD can't hurt, especially if it is a freebie. If nothing else it will save you a few bucks on a CD and floppy drive to put into some other upgrades. Depending on the type of RAM in the old PC, and the new motherboard you might even be able to get some more use out of your old RAM too.

Don't go for the socket 754 or AGP. It is old technology. And you really don't need 2GB ram. 1GB will do just fine. And you can use that money to put towards a better mobo and video card. You will not be very happy with the GeForce fx 5200. ;)
Take a look at these.
$146 - Athlon64 3000+ Venice (http://www.newegg.com/Product/Product.asp?Item=N82E16819103537) Socket 939
$135 - MSI K8N Neo4 Platinum (NForce4 Ultra) Socket 939 (http://www.newegg.com/Product/Product.asp?Item=N82E16813130484)
$164 - Leadtek GeForce 6600GT PCIe x16 (http://www.newegg.com/Product/Product.asp?Item=N82E16814122201)
This will give much better performance with socket 939 and PCI-express graphics. No problems playing WoW. ;) It will also give you much better future upgrade potential than socket 754 and AGP. ;)
That comes to about $445 before any mail-in rebates. With the case and HDD you have picked out it comes to about $575 total not including S&H. Assuming your going to reuse monitor, KB, and mouse. If you can fit it into your budget, you can get a DVD-RW for about $45. Or as jcnoernberg said you can get a plain old CD-RW for $20-$25.

yes i agree with jlreich, you will be better off with the 939 socket. just finished building one with the asus kv8 mobo with agp grahics card, only cuz i had the 6800 agp nVida vid card..
with the box below, i bought that one for my son when i built his (btw i put the MSI K8N Neo4 Platinum (NForce4 Ultra) Socket 939
in that one very nice), but check the power supply!!! it came with a 20 pin and would not work on the mobo needing a 24pin so i had to change out the power supply for another ..grrr extra cost..but the box is nice...blue lights.. :D .

I'd ante-up the hard drive to at least 120gb. And I have the GeForce FX5200xt, it works fine for me.

Actually you can get a 20pin to 24pin adapter. Like this one. http://www.newegg.com/Product/Product.asp?Item=N82E16812183045
I haven't looked but you can probably pick one up at the local Circuit City or somewhere like that.
dlove is right though, check the specs on the PSU to see if it has a 24pin connector on it. At least you will be prepared and pick one up if it doesn't. Instead of  because you started to put things together and found out the connector wont work.

And I have the GeForce FX5200xt, it works fine for me.No one is debating the fact that the FX5200 is fine for WoW, we're just saying two things: 1) that it makes little sense to go with AGP right now for a new system, and 2) that there are much more powerful vid cards for PCIe x16 that are the same price as the FX5200.
It's all about the technology advancements. Even though a PII 400 is more than powerful enough for a low-end email system doesn't mean you'd buy one right now! Who wants to pay for older technology that can't be upgraded? Especially when there are far better components for the same price with greater availability?

One thing I forgot. None of the above prices include an OS. You didn't say if you had that taken care of or not. You can't do much without one. Except maybe see how fast the new machine can get through post. :p
If you don't have one, XP home goes for $91.95 right now at Newegg.

I recommend XP pro, but if it is to much for your budget XP home will be fine.
