I have an old system which I was using it fine then I took some parts out and built a newer system. Now I am trying to reinstall Win2K in my old machine, but for whatever reasons, this computer will not try to read or write any file named cdrom.* I tried to reinstall Win2K and it tries to copy cdrom.sy_ and cdrom.in_ to my hard drive as part of the installation, but it keeps telling me that it's having problem writing that file to the hard drive. So I copied that file from another computer to a floppy (thinking maybe the CD-ROM is bad) and tried to copy that file to that old computer's hard drive, but it won't let me copy it. So I tried to use a plain text editor and try to save a file as cdrom.sys or cdrom.sy_ or cdrom with any extension, and it won't let me save it. Is it a virus? Has any one seen something like this? No matter what I do, I can't access or write files named with cdrom.*

Thanks.

OK. I think I found what the problem was, but it doesn't make sense...
But FYI, here's what's happening.
In my config.sys file, I have a line like this:
devicehigh=d:\dos98\oakcdrom.sys /D:cdrom
Note the cdrom after the /D:.
That was it. For whatever reasons, giving "cdrom" as the device name prevented me to write any files named as cdrom.*.
I changed it to "cd001" and now it works as it should...
Weird...
